I lead a mens Bible study early on Thursday mornings. Occasionally it's just me and one of my key leaders in the church, Gary Harrison. On those mornings we end up swapping stories.
Today, he shared the story of Elmer Dunbar who has long been gone from this earth. Elmer was the man who lead Gary to the Lord in the late 1970's. He was an average guy. In fact, some people would describe Elmer as abnormally average: from the country, not exactly handsome, uneducated, had a speech impediment, blue-collar, etc. He was the type of guy that you would never expect so show up at your door to tell you about the love of Jesus. But he did and today Gary Harrison is serving faithfully at LCC-HHI telling Hilton Head Islanders about the love of Jesus as a result.
In the church today, we don't do much door to door visitation any longer; our culture doesn't lend itself to that. But you know Elmer didn't just reach Gary, but thousands and maybe even ten's of thousands in his local Akron, OH community. Gary's story made me think about what the ripple effect can be from one life. Elmer Dunbar caused ripples. Am I? Are you?
