What was I doing 10 years ago?

I was living in Atlanta, working as the Music Director at NorthStar Church...Todd and I were the typical DINKS (double income, no kids).  We had been married for almost 3 years and we loving living in Atl!

5 things on my to -do list today
1. Rehearse for Services with singers (not a normal Saturday thing)
2. Start laundry
3.Work on details for Sydney's upcoming princess birthday party
4.Make decisions on paint, carpet, and chairs for our new worship space with an anonymous group of people (it is for their protection:)
5. Make sure I have EVERYTHING done for our worship service tomorrow (and all of it sitting by the door tonight before I go to bed!

5 places I have traveled...Portugal...Spain...North Africa...St. Thomas , BVI...Playa Del Carma, Mexico

5 treats is enjoy...Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream...fudge covered Oreos...Ding Dongs (see a pattern?)...homemade chocolate chip cookies...chocolate cake.

What would I do if I were a billionaire?
1. Set-up a foundation to train leaders, equip them, and resource their efforts specifically for church planting world-wide.
2. Fund the development of Kalein.
3. Assist churches that our passionate about the arts in providing the resources to develop an artist-in- residence program for aspiring and talented artists.
4. Pay off the debt and provide reserves for every church that have served as a staff member.
5.  Do some serious shopping:)

My Friend Stephanie

I was watching the Verizon Heritage Golf Tournament (it is THE biggest thing on our Island!) and all of the sudden I see my friend Stephanie Plemons in a National Selsun Blue ad!  She had just started modeling when we moved to NYC in 2006 and it has just taken off for her.  We did some outreach together for models in the city including breakfast for agencies and a dinner at our house for some of her model friends. More than that, she loves Sydney and took care of her many times for us while we lived there.  I miss you, Steph!  BTW...her hair REALLY does look like that!

J.K. Rowling's Creative Dilemma

Do you think J.K. Rowling has gone too far or has she just been too nice?   

 

J.K. Rowling said Monday that her efforts to halt a publisher's "Harry Potter" lexicon have been crushing her creativity.  Rowling said she has stopped work on a new novel because the lawsuit in federal court has "decimated my creative work over the last month." Rowling is suing RDR Books to stop publication of Steven Vander Ark's "Harry Potter Lexicon." She says her copyrights are being violated.  "This book constitutes wholesale theft of 17 years of my hard work," she testified Monday.  In court papers, Vander Ark, 50, said he was a teacher and school librarian in Byron Center, Mich., before recently moving to London to begin a career as a writer.  He said he joined an adult online discussion group devoted to the "Harry Potter" books in 1999 before launching his own Web site as a hobby a year later. Since then, neither Rowling nor her publisher had ever complained about anything on it, he said. In May 2004, he said, Rowling mentioned his Web site on her own, writing, "This is such a great site that I have been known to sneak into an Internet cafe while out writing and check a fact rather than go into a bookshop and buy a copy of Harry Potter (which is embarrassing). A Web site for the dangerously obsessive; my natural home."

Who writes your favorite musical score in movies today? There is one person that rises to the top for me...Hans Zimmer.  My all-time favorite movie soundtrack?  Gladiator...no question.  Gladiator is one of the Number 1 selling movie soundtracks of ALL time.  Hans Zimmer is different than most composers , like a Howard Shore or a John Williams...he is very closed off to performing his music in public and very rarely if ever does he conduct.  His background is Rock and Roll (which is why I love him, I'm sure). "I like working in a collaborative way," he says. "I'm not very ego-driven about being 'The Composer.' Whoever brings in great ideas should be welcomed."

10:30pm at Disney

We're moving this week as a family...to a new rental house on the Island.  Our lease was up last week in the current rent house we are in and buying a home didn't work out so we move again.  You know that feeling when you have been at Disney World all day and its about 10:30 pm and your 3 year old is just dead dog tired and you pick them up and they just fall limp in your arms?  That is where I am with God right now.  I look back on my journey in the last 3 years and I feel like I have been at Disney World - running, jumping, riding rides, eating, seeing shows, eating, skipping, starring in amazement, laughing, crying, waiting in line, hurrying through the line...it's 10:30 pm and my Father is carrying me through the park.  I'm thinking about my "day" and I am exhausted.  Thanks for the ride, Dad.

Art or Vandalism?

For me, I see it as art.   I believe that Banksy challenges us to think and not all art that is sold for millions of dollars in Chelsea and other art houses makes us think.  Art has never fallen within the boundaries of what society says is right or wrong - art is amoral. I know as I watched this clip, I was challenged about my art and whether I do what is safe or do I challenge what is around me.  I like discussion - no, I love discussion...and Banksy has us talking and that is good art.

Baby Gianni

There are very few true defining moments in one's life.  I remember where I was when I knew God called me into full-time ministry, when I knew Todd was the love of my life, and when I knew leaving our church home in Atlanta in 2005 would change my life forever.  Last night was a new defining moment for me.  Todd and I have had the privilege (and I truly mean that!) of walking a road with 2 friends here in Hilton Head as they experienced what all of us pray never happens to us - the death of a child.  Baby Gianni Armando Godoy lived 8 days.  His parents, Rod and Etresia, have been on a journey that few of us could ever imagine surviving.  We had a Memorial/Celebration Service for him last night that ranks up there with one of the most difficult things that I have had to be a part of as a musician and as a friend. However, as Rod and Etresia shared how their faith in God has been increased, how they would have never survived this had it not been for their relationship with Christ, and how they celebrate the fact that Gianni's short life has impacted more people to see their own eternity than some people who live 80 years...I was blown away.  They invited all their friends - those with faith and those who are not there yet.  I have never been a part of something that was the closest thing to seeing how God desires us to live out our faith and share it with others than last night.  Sometimes being in full-time ministry, we have to be a part of things that frankly we have NO idea how we are going to get through them because we are people as human as anyone else - flawed, feeling, and fearful.  When you see 2 people totally immersed in the strength that lies in their faith in God, you see with fresh eyes just how AMAZING our God truly is.

Roti and curry

Sunday night, we were invited to Clint's house (who is from South Africa) for a South African meal...Roti and Curry. Roti is a flat Indian bread and Curry is a spicy dish with meat and potatoes.  The coolest thing was that Sydney stood in a chair and watched Clint prepare the Roti for 20 minutes!  She says she is going to be baker/cook one day.  It was fabulous!  Click on the link for a recipe!
